# Remove the "All" Option from Admin List Limits in Joomla

## Take the "All" choice out of the list limit dropdown on every Joomla admin screen, so no one loads thousands of rows at once, using one JavaScript snippet.

 ![Remove the ](https://www.tassos.gr/images/2026/10/code-snippets-remove-all-list-limit-card.png)Every list in the Joomla administrator has a dropdown that sets how many rows to show, and its last choice is **All**. On a site with a few thousand articles, users or menu items, one click on it builds a page so big the browser hangs, and the choice is remembered, so the next visit to that list hangs too. Joomla has no setting to take the option away. You can remove it from every list with one JavaScript snippet in Code Snippets.

## [The JavaScript snippet code](#the-javascript-snippet-code)

Set **Code Type** to `JavaScript`, then use this snippet. On every administrator page it finds the list limit dropdowns and removes their **All** option. A list that was already set to All switches to the largest limit left, 500, and reloads once with it.

```
// Removes "All" from the list limit dropdown of every administrator list.
// A list that was already showing all items switches to the largest limit.
document.querySelectorAll('select[name="list[limit]"]').forEach(function (select) {
  var all = select.querySelector('option[value="0"]');
  if (!all)
  {
    return;
  }
  var wasAll = all.selected;
  all.remove();
  if (wasAll)
  {
    select.value = select.options[select.options.length - 1].value;
    select.form.submit();
  }
});
```

The default limit for new lists stays whatever **Default List Limit** says in your Global Configuration.

## [How to add this snippet](#how-to-add-this-snippet)

1. Install [Code Snippets](https://www.tassos.gr/docs/code-snippets/getting-started/how-to-install) if it isn't installed already.
2. Log into your Joomla backend.
3. Go to **Components** → **Tassos Code Snippets**.
4. Click **New**.
5. Enter a title, for example *No "All" list limit*.
6. Set **Code Type** to **JavaScript**.
7. Set **Insertion Method** to **Auto-Insert Locations**.
8. Set **Location** to **Admin Footer**.
9. Paste the code above into the editor.
10. Click **Save & Close**.

[Admin locations](https://www.tassos.gr/docs/code-snippets/locations/admin) are part of Code Snippets Pro.

## [Check that it works](#check-that-it-works)

1. Go to **Content** → **Articles**.
2. Open the list limit dropdown at the top right of the list.

The choices stop at 500. The same is true under Users, Menus and every other list. The dropdowns on the frontend of your site are not touched.
