The Recipe Content Type

The Recipe snippet is ideal for articles which describe a recipe. You are able to mark up your recipe content with structured data to provide rich cards and host-specific lists for your recipes, such as reviewer ratings, cooking and preparation times, and nutrition information. Lets see how to create one.

Navigate to Components > Google Structured Data > Items

You will be located in the Items Manager Screen from which you can either edit an existing item or create a new one.

Creating a new item means that you have to select the Content Item from any of your components which are supported as Integrations.

Once you click on the select button, a modal will appear which contains the Content Items for each of your components. In this modal you need to select the component to which the content item belongs and then select the content item itself.

Then, select the "Recipe" Content Type in order for its fields to appear below.

Finally, the "Recipe" Content Type has a certain set of fields that can be filled out. Let's see them one by one.

Name Description
Title The recipe's title. If you leave it blank, the article's title will be used instead.
Description The recipe's description. If you leave it blank, the article's body will be used instead.
Image

The image option has the following 3 choices

  • Inherit : Use the article's main image.
  • Upload : Upload your own image.
  • Custom URL : Add a custom URL of an image.
Rating

The rating option has the following 3 choices

  • Disabled: Do not add a rating snippet inside the Content Type.
  • Inherit: Use the article's voting data automatically, if there are any.
  • Custom: Manually enter the average rating of the article and the total amount of reviews it currently has.
Preparation Time The recipe's preparation time in minutes.
Cooking Time The recipe's cooking time in minutes.
Total Time The recipe's total time of completion in minutes. It is common to use the sum of the preparation and the cooking time unless there is some extra time needed after the cooking.
Calories The recipe's calories for one serving.
Servings The amount of servings which will be available once the recipe is completed.
Ingredients The recipe's ingredients. Fill one ingredient per line so it can be recognized by Google correctly.
Instructions The recipe's instructions. Try to split the instructions into steps and write one step for each line so Google can recognize the separate steps correctly.
